Sayoc NorCal

Last weekend I had the opportunity to train with Guro John Perrings of Sayoc NorCal. Even though we worked on material that was familiar to us, there were still variations and options we had not seen before. In both classes that I teach as IEFMA, I encourage students to constantly switch partners and get a feel for different energies. This exchange, or dynamic, is partly what keeps our Filipino Martial Arts alive and evolving. Just like language, the conversations and evolving use of words an phrases are what separates modern communication from dead languages such as Latin. To paraphrase Guro Dan Inosanto, train with as many people as you can. Our bodies, skills and abilities respond to and grow the most with change.

Thanks again to Guro John and Dave for a great class. See you guys again soon.
