Great Job!

City of Claremont Filipino Martial Arts students,

GREAT JOB TONIGHT! I know it seems like a lot but hang in there, everyone is looking really good.

Since there is no class next week, try to practice your lines (angles 1-7) and try a little freestyle at home. Remember your freestyles can be the angles we learned, the partner drill exercises and even your triangle footwork.

Here is a great example of one of my Master Instructors (Tuhon Felix Cortes) and his freestyle (free flow).

Inosanto-Lacoste Kali Salutation

•03.03.2010 • 1 Comment

Claremont Filipino Martial Arts Students, this is the full (extended) saluatation I described in class. As mentioned last night, we will be using an abbreviated salute.

Inosanto-Lacoste Kali Salutation

With Heaven and Earth as my witness, I stand before the Creator and mankind of Earth.
I strive for knowledge and wisdom with the five senses and beyond the five senses.
I strive for the love of mankind and there will be no needless shedding of blood.
I bow not in submission, but in respect to you.
I extend the hand of friendship over the hand of war, and look to the Creator for divine guidance.
But if my friendship is rejected, I am trained to be a warrior.
I stand in symbolism, for I serve only the Creator, my family and my country.
With my mind and heart, I cherish the knowledge my instructors have given me.
For it is my life in combat.
I am prepared to go against you even if your skill is superior to mine.
And if my body falls to you in combat, you have only defeated my physical body.
For my fighting spirit will arise to the heavens, for it is unconquerable.

Sayoc Memberships and Training Notes

•02.20.2010 • Leave a Comment

Just as a reminder, please register with Sayoc International Sayoc Kali Silak Training Association (SKSTA) as soon as possible. Once registered, please let me know. I will be confirming registrations in the coming weeks. Annual memberships are $75 and allow access to the Sayoc Members Site. On the Members Forums you will find archived class notes for IEFMA as well as nearly all Sayoc groups and classes for the past several years.

I try to post the most current class notes only but you can find previous note sets on the Members Site. Just look for the IEFMA posts. It is a good idea to start and maintain your own personal training log as well. The process of taking notes does facilitate retention of material and processing of the skills and lessons learned. Guro Dan Inosanto has spoken on several occasions of his own meticulous notes, which over the many decades he has committed to training constitutes volumes of material. Pamana Tuhon Sayoc’s notes from when he was a young teenager continue to influence the material we learn during our instructors trainings, and continue to encourage growth and discussion for each other, and ultimately to you, our students.
